Bel Cantanti, an opera company, under the direction of Dr. Katerina Souvorova, was formed in 2003 with the express purpose of giving performance opportunities to local, operatic talent. Its members consist of young opera professionals, whose collective performance experiences include fully staged operatic productions in different venues around the country and abroad.
In December 2003, Bel Cantanti held its first fully–staged opera production, Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Virginia, which was received with both enthusiasm and acclaim by the local community. Since then, Bel Cantanti has had continued success with its productions of :
Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore (May 2004, 2007), Verdi’s Rigoletto (October 2004), Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors (December 2004, 2005), Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (March 2005), Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia (May 2005), Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment (September 2005), Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel (October 2005), Rachmaninoff's Aleko (February 2006), Tchaikovsky's Iolanta (May 2006), Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (December 2006), Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (April 2007), Mozart's Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, Puccini's La Boheme, Verdi's La Traviata, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi as well as numerous gala concerts and recitals of opera, operetta and music theater.
